WORK DAYS:           187 Days - 10 Month Employee 

REPORT TO:             Building Principal

FLSA STATUS:          EXEMPT                    

 

The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

Currently the mASD serves approximately 4100 students in Yazoo City and Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. As part of the state’s comprehensive transformation effort, the mASD seeks to become the model for sustainable school and district improvement in areas of the state that have experienced chronic and entrenched underperformance. Over time, the mASD intends to develop the highest-performing, competitively compensated, and most revered educator workforce in the state known for providing instructional excellence and producing significant outcomes for ALL students.

The district seeks effective teachers with outstanding interpersonal skills who have a passion for working with schools, principals, and communities and who are committed to ensuring all students achieve. Serving a population as diverse as ours requires creativity, commitment, and vision.  

POSITION OVERVIEW

To accomplish this, we need inspiring teachers who:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. 

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

  • Provides quality work that engages students in learning
  • Possesses knowledge of subject matter content
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to individual differences in students
  • Differentiates instruction for a variety of developmental stages and ability levels
  • Implements adopted curriculum subject matter standards and assessment instruments to meet school and district goals
  • Plans lessons in a logical sequence and demonstrates knowledge of the subjects to be taught and the relationship to other subjects
  • Reflects on teaching and devising ways of improving performance on an ongoing basis
  • Collaborates with other educators to create the most complete educational environment possible for students
  • Uses a variety of assessment techniques and/or models to evaluate student performance in addition to formative assessment to improve instruction
  • Assumes responsibility for all students to ensure adequate yearly progress as determined by local, state, and federal standards
  • Participates in the referral-to-placement process for students being referred for Child Study
  • Utilizes technology in the teaching and learning process
  • Provides a physical environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning, and implements approved disciplinary measures to allow for effective instruction and classroom management
  • Relates to parents and other community members, individual and corporate, in a positive and helpful fashion
  • Writes, speaks, and presents instruction in a clear, concise, and well-planned manner
  • Participates in self-initiated and school/district-initiated professional growth in order to maintain licensure and support school improvement efforts
  • Adheres to policies and procedures established by district, state, and federal guidelines including the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics
  • Submits required reports efficiently, promptly, and accurately
  • Inventories classroom materials, textbooks, and equipment
  • Accepts the responsibilities of co-curricular and extra-curricular duties as assigned by administration
  • Participates in departmental/grade-level teams, school-level teams, and district-level committees as requested, and attends school-related functions outside the instructional day
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
  • Supports the Mississippi Achievement School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or related field
  • Valid educational license
  • Appropriate endorsement and/training for assigned course(s)
