JOB TITLE:               Teacher Assistant

LOCATION:              Ida Greene Elementary

SALARY:                   Assistant Teacher Salary Schedule (Funding Source:  SPED Federal 2610)

WORK DAYS:           180 Days - 10 Month Employee 

REPORT TO:             Building Principal and Supervising Teacher

FLSA STATUS:          NON-EXEMPT           

 

The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

Currently the mASD serves approximately 4100 students in Yazoo City and Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. As part of the state’s comprehensive transformation effort, the mASD seeks to become the model for sustainable school and district improvement in areas of the state that have experienced chronic and entrenched underperformance. Over time, the mASD intends to develop the highest-performing, competitively compensated, and most revered educator workforce in the state known for providing instructional excellence and producing significant outcomes for ALL students.

The district seeks effective teacher assistants with outstanding interpersonal skills who have a passion for working with schools, principals, and communities and who are committed to ensuring all students achieve. POSITION OVERVIEW

We believe that all students can achieve at the highest levels and are committed to providing opportunities that will permit all students to do so. mASD teacher assistants will provide effective support with in the classroom and school environment in an effort to aid teachers, administrators, and other staff in providing the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally. To accomplish this, we need teacher assistants who:

  • Are passionate about student achievement and closing the opportunity gap.
  • Believe that the urgency of closing this gap is too great to accept excuses of any kind.
  • Assist with implementation of a rigorous and rich instructional program

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned. 

 

JOB EXPECTATIONS: 

To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment in order that students may learn effectively. Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:

  1. Assists in the general supervision of students in the halls, restrooms, playgrounds, or any other area of the school campus
  2. Administers, scores, and records, such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
  3. Works with individual students or groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
  4. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  5. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  6. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
  7. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
  8. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
  9. Assist with the supervision of students as assigned
  10. Assists in planning and conducting field trips
  11. Assists the teacher in materials preparation and in the instructional planning process
  12. Attends parent-teacher conferences unless directed otherwise
  13. Keeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up to date
  14. Assists with such group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling
  15. Assists students in the library or media center as needed
  16. Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing and makeup work as assigned by the teacher
  17. Checks and records student’s attendance
  18. Alerts the regular teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student
  19. Substitutes for short duration for regular classroom teacher
  20. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
  21. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of a fully licensed teacher
  22. May serve in other approved capacities such as, but not limited to:
    1. ISS Monitor
    2. Lab Assistant
  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
  2. Supports the Mississippi Achievement School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
  3. Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate's Degree or Higher OR
  2. Two Years or 48 College Credit Hours OR
  3. High School Diploma/GED and Verfication of WorkKeys Scores

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Pay rate and work year to be established by the Superintendent of Education

 

EVALUATION: Bi-Annually
