SALARY:                   Teacher Salary Schedule Plus Supplement

WORK DAYS:            235 Days - 12 Month Employee

REPORT TO:             School Principal

The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Instructional coaches are classroom teachers who provide their peers with support with collaborative planning, coaching, modeling, feedback, mentoring and meaningful team time that improves teaching and learning every single day. The Teacher Leadership Model (TLM) allows our best teachers to share their knowledge and experience with fellow teachers to ensure strong instruction while staying true to their first love: teaching their own classroom of kids. Some instructional coaches may spend half their time in the classroom teaching and half their time observing, coaching, mentoring, and planning with their team of teachers. Some instructional coaches may spend all of their time teaching their own classroom of students but will facilitate collaborative planning, mentor new teachers, and/or facilitate professional learning during released time or at other designated times.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (in addition to classroom teacher duties and responsibilities):

  • Serve as a peer leader for specified grade level(s) or a content area and act as a support and liaison for continuous improvement in curriculum, instruction and assessment in the designated area.
  • Lead collaborative planning meetings.
  • Support teachers with the use of curriculum materials; provide and facilitate observation, coaching, and feedback cycles with teachers.
  • Support instructional effectiveness of new teachers.
  • Promote collaboration among multiple disciplines.
  • Plan, coordinate, conduct and communicate the results of regular meetings within and across schools.
  • Plan and facilitate team meetings during the school day with grade level/content area teachers that focuses on such activities as sharing strategies to improve instruction and review/use of student data.
  • Actively participate in the district’s TLM Academy and all TLM trainings and meetings.
  • Work within the district to provide leadership for systemic unit and assessment development and implementation as well as program evaluation within and across schools and programs.
  • Assist in planning professional development to support instruction.
  • Provide guidance and direction in the development and identification of resources.
  • Work with colleagues and administration to share information with parents/ guardians.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with certification/license as a teacher in Mississippi.
  • Minimum of 3 years successful and effective teaching experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards (MCCRS) and working knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities and strong ability to work effectively with individuals and groups.
  • Evidence-based decision maker and ability to turn data into actionable knowledge.
  • Schoolwide change agent driven to ensure sustainable change.
  • Ongoing learner with an insatiable quest for improvement.
