JOB TITLE: Tutor
LOCATION: Mississippi Achievement School District (Yazoo City Region)
SALARY: $50 per hour (part time) (Grant funded-GEAR UP)
WORK DAYS: TBD
REPORT TO: Principal
FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Tutor will support the goals of the Mississippi Achievement School District and by providing high dosage tutoring to students experiencing deficits in core grade-level instruction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Committed to providing tutorial services for identified students
- Participates in team meetings with school personnel, as needed.
- Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress
- Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skill and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills
- Provide direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials needed for student success
- Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice
- Provide subject-specific content to help students through drop-in, pull out and or extended school day assistance
- Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences
- Models the mASD core values: Accountability, Commitment, Integrity, Teamwork, and Compassion.
- Attends training as requested.
- Recognize your role as a mandated reporter and report any problematic issues.
- Familiarize oneself with the MDE’s high dosage tutoring model and expected impact
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
- Be 21 years of age.
- Retired and/or Certified Teacher, Assistant Teacher or High School graduate with creditable coursework in Mathematics, English, Science and/or History.
- Exhibit a genuine concern for all students and community.
- Skilled in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work in a diverse and high energy, fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with high integrity
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Must be able to pass a background check
