SALARY:                   Teacher Salary Schedule (Funding Source: General  1120)

WORK DAYS:            187 Days-10 month employee

REPORT TO:             Building Principal

FLSA STATUS:          EXEMPT                    

 

The students of the Mississippi Achievement School District (mASD) need your talent, expertise, passion and leadership.

We are seeking highly motivated and innovative practitioners to join our team at the mASD. We seek individuals who are radically relentless about re-envisioning the landscape of public education in Mississippi and making a significant difference in the lives of students, parents, school leaders, teachers, and central office employees.

Currently the mASD serves approximately 4100 students in Yazoo City and Humphreys County in the Mississippi Delta. As part of the state’s comprehensive transformation effort, the mASD seeks to become the model for sustainable school and district improvement in areas of the state that have experienced chronic and entrenched underperformance. Over time, the mASD intends to develop the highest-performing, competitively compensated, and most revered educator workforce in the state known for providing instructional excellence and producing significant outcomes for ALL students.

POSITION OVERVIEW

To provide students with the library materials and services most appropriate and most meaningful in their growth and development as individuals. To provide teachers with materials and services needed to enrich the classroom curricula

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including, but are not limited to:
  • Provides reading enrichment for students
  • Develops short and long-range goals for the media center program
  • Developed and implements policies and procedures for the media center
  • Maintains the media center to be an attractive, functional orderly environment with an atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Works with the technology coordinator to implement the technology plan for the school Manages the library budget including special funds allocated to the library program
  • Provides a balanced, up-to-date collection of both print and non-print materials including technology to support the school’s instructional program
  • Classifies, catalogues, processes, and organizes materials for circulation
  • Establishes circulation procedures for easy access to the media center collection and maintains records on the use of its resources
  • Accounts for materials through a yearly inventory and discards/weeds inappropriate, worn-out, or outdated items
  • Assists in the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of clerks, student assistants, and adult volunteers
  • Provides orientation and instruction for students and faculty in the use of the library media center’s materials and equipment
  • Assists students and teachers in locating information and resources for research
  • Encourages reading by maintaining an awareness of students’ reading interests and by providing guidance in the selection of appropriate materials
  • Works cooperatively with teachers to integrate research, information retrieval skills, and library appreciation into the curriculum
  • Promotes a positive relationship with students, faculty, administration, and community Determines instructional needs within the library media program by consulting with teachers and administrators
  • Publicizes library media programs and services
  • Distributes written communications to inform teachers of new materials in the media center Develops and communicates goals, objectives, and budgetary needs for the library media program to administrators
  • Provides professional development in the use of information and technology for faculty and staff Attends library conferences/workshops and continuing education courses to keep abreast of new library media trends
  • Participates in professional organizations and activities relating to library media and technology Provides access to professional materials/information for the faculty and staff
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
  • Supports the Mississippi Achievement School District Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or related field
  • Valid educational license
  • Experience with instructional technology and/or digital media preferred
  • Appropriate endorsement and/training
